I spent two weeks over Christmas and New Year travelling through Cambodia. One of my stops was the small island of Koh Rong Samloem. A two plus hour boat ride from Sihanoukville, Koh Rong Samloem is a peaceful haven. I stayed at Saracen Bay Resort, one of a handful of options on Saracen Bay.
Cabins are just steps from the water (and at high tide, this is even more true). The sand is fine and the slope gentle.
During my three-night stay on the island, the winds were unusually strong, causing some pretty strong waves, so each day I walked down the beach and then headed across the island to Lazy Beach (only about thirty minutes).
The water at Lazy Beach was clear and calm, and the sand just as soft as at Saracen Bay.
Two other things stand out about Lazy Beach – the restaurant at Lazy Beach Resort, and the sunsets.
If you’re thinking of visiting Cambodia, you should consider including Koh Rong Samloem. Staff at both Saracen Bay and Lazy Beach resorts mentioned that there are plans for more development on the island. Try to get there while it’s still relatively undeveloped.
